A day on the Islands…
Daniel and William were asked to visit a couple of the schools on the small islands off the coast of Redland Bay, QLD.
Accompanied and introduced to the local school communities by our local State Member for Redlands, Hon. Kim Richards MP. It was an amazing full day adventure being able to go by car, on the barge, for the journey from the mainland across to Macleay Island.
Macleay Island
The first stop was to the Macleay Island State School. The boys spoke to years 4 and 5, it was only a brief visit with Daniel and William doing a short introduction followed by a 45 minute Q and A, however, they needed much more time to get through all of the questions!
The students came so prepared, and they were so engaged throughout the session they even asked Daniel about his cerebral palsy, asking if he found it hard to make friends.
“It’s so great these students are not afraid to be curious and to ask questions, not only about the environment, but about other topics such as disability”, Daniel said.
Russell Island
After Macleay Island were back on the ferry for the short 30 minute trip to visit Russell Island State School. The boys did two meet and greet sessions at the school, the first was with years 2 and 3 followed by years 4 and 5. Just like Macleay Island State School, the students were also very engaged and hanging off every word from the boys. Daniel and William were sure they would have stayed at the school all afternoon if they didn’t have a pre-arranged ferry to take them back to the mainland.
Daniel and William would like to extend their thanks to the Hon. Kim Richards MP for making the introductions to the schools and a massive thank you to the Macleay and Russell Island State Schools for welcoming us into their community.
.The boys had a fantastic time and hope to visit again in the future.
