Alexandra Hills State School Visit
Daniel was invited to Alexandra Hills State School to speak with the Year 5’s and 6’s. The presentation went really well and all 52 students were super excited.
The students were learning all about sustainability and palm oil, using Tears In The Jungle as a resource, during this first term. The students were so engaged throughout the whole presentation and they were eager to learn everything they can, you could’ve heard a pin drop! After the presentation, the students had so many interesting questions, some of which were not on the orangutans. The most notable question Daniel received was from a student who asked “Why does cerebral palsy affect your speech?”. Daniel explained that cerebral palsy is a physical disability which affects the brain so the signals from the brain to the muscles are a bit disrupted. It was great to raise awareness for disability as well as the orangutans. Another great question Daniel was ask was about cloning orangutans, “Can scientists use orangutan DNA to recreate orangutans?”. Unfortunately science is not quite there yet to clone orangutans but it’s fantastic to see students thinking about alternative ways to help orangutans.

Thanks so much Alexandra Hills State School for having Daniel. It was such a blast and their teacher, Mrs Lea, said that the students are looking to adopt an orangutan as a class which is awesome to hear!
