A WHEELIE GREAT RESULT !!

20130816 Speaking at Sydney Uni WheelkingsDaniel and William’s fund raising night, “Making Orangutans Wheelie Happy” was a HUGE success and a great result raising $3,101 for The Orangutan Project’s Safeguard Program  (this equates to 8,514 acres critically endangered orangutan habitat protected!!!)

The night kicked off with Daniel and William’s father, Rodney Clarke, introducing the boys, and their quest, to the audience of 200 people and then welcoming the players from the Sydney Uni Wheelkings and the Wollongong Roller Hawks to the field.

20130816 Silent AuctionThere were many raffle tickets sold and, although the silent auction had a reasonably slow start, towards the end people were scrambling to write their names down and increasing the bids through the roof – it was almost as exciting as the game!

20130816 Action shot at Sydney Uni WheelkingsThe Wheelchair Basketball game itself was just incredible.  Paralympic athletes at their peak !  The people, their game, the determination and perseverance resulted in an inspiring and exhilarating 2 hours.  I highly recommend keeping an eye on the Sydney Uni Wheelkings Facebook page so as to attend their next game.

A very special thank-you goes to the many organisations that supported the boys for the silent auction and raffle prizes (Prize lists are mentioned HERE).  It was through your amazing generosity and recognition of the problem orangutans are experiencing, combined with Daniel and William’s determination to make a difference, which really made it possible to raise this money.

…and most importantly, a big thank you goes out to the team of amazing people who helped us bring the night together Heidi, Penny, Daniel, William, Brianna, Cathy, Michael, Michelle, Carly, Lara and Corey…
